A La Vergne man has been arrested after police determined that his report of an armed robbery on I-24 in August was fabricated.

Investigators found that the man had purchased eggs and thrown them on his own vehicle before calling authorities with a false story about suspects attacking him on the interstate. Police confirmed that no robbery occurred and no suspects were ever at large.

La Vergne detectives issued a warrant for the man’s arrest on a charge of filing a false report. He was taken into custody with help from Murfreesboro Police and later confessed.

Officials emphasized that while the story may have sounded unusual, filing false reports is a serious offense that diverts resources from real emergencies.
