Local Leaders Plan Cannon Runs for Children 5K Walk/Run

Runners and walkers of all ages will fill the streets of Woodbury for the 3rd Annual Cannon Runs for Children.

The planning has begun for the annual event. The first Cannon Runs for Children Committee meeting was held on Monday, May 6, 2019.

Local leaders serving on the Cannon Runs for Children Committee include: the Honorable Juvenile Judge Susan Melton, Race course designer Lt. Brian Elrod, Catherine Player from Youth Services, School Resource Officer Anthony Young, Department of Children’s Services supervisor Venessa Hyer, Jo Bonner with Redstone Federal Credit Union, Christine O’Day with Experience Church, Cara Sheffler with Southern Roots Nutrition, Ethan Curtis and Travis Dunavant with Cannon County Sheriff’s Department, and Cassell Galligan-Davis, Jessica Wauchek, and Monica Watson from the Child Advocacy Center.

Cannon Runs for Children 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019. Registration starts at 6:45 a.m. at Dillon Park, 125 Alexander Dr in Woodbury, with speakers at 7:15 a.m., and the race begins at 7:30 a.m. The entry fees are $20 for adults and $15 for Senior Citizens. New this year, the event will be FREE for children and youth age 18 and under. Event t-shirts will be available for $15.

Runners and walkers may pre-register online at cannoncac.org or through runsignup.com by searching Cannon Runs for Children. You may also register by contacting the Child Advocacy Center at (615) 563-9915 and requesting a registration form be emailed to you.

The Cannon County Child Advocacy Center works as a team with the Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement, and the District Attorney’s Office to respond to child abuse cases, aggressively prosecute offenders, and help children and families heal from the trauma.

“All funds raised from the event will stay in Cannon County and be used to provide services to child abuse victims, child sexual abuse victims, and drug endangered children,” said Cannon County Coordinator Cassell Galligan-Davis.
