Morning Brew, a new coffee shop located just off Murfreesboro city square, is open and offering smoothies, tea, cookies, biscuits and, of course, coffee!

Morning Brew is the brain-child of Middle Tennessee State University Women’s Tennis Coach, Tayo Bailey-Duvall and her husband, Brett Duvall. Bailey-Duvall, according to a recent MTSU press release, came from Butler University where her team won Big East Tournament matches four out of five seasons. She came to Murfreesboro wanting to start a smoothie shop, and Brett loves biscuits. When she saw the lack of coffee shops in the area, Morning Brew was born.

The biscuits they are becoming famous for are offered in an assortment of flavors, including strawberry, vanilla, blueberry, chocolate, pumpkin spice, and honey butter. They are available in regular and vegan options.

“We are trying to roll out one new biscuit flavor a month,” said Brett Duvall. “The latest is chocolate raspberry. We have also added a ham and pimento cheese sandwich on a biscuit. Our most popular, however, are the blueberry and the honey-butter.”

They carry an assortment of premium hot teas, including green, chai, black, and oolong. On the hot days we have been having of late, their iced tea is perfectly refreshing.

It is the coffee, however, that makes them stand out. It is the only item on their menu that is not made locally. The cookies, bagels, and cakes all come from area bakeries. It is also their biggest secret.

“We tried like a million blends,” said Duvall. “Not really a million, but a lot, from the very expensive to the cheapest. This one was the best that was also practical to have in a coffee shop. We did try one that was a high-end Asian coffee blend that was better, but not practical.”

Most people’s favorite coffee drinks are available, as are flavored coffees. One of their biggest sellers is Bullet Proof Coffee, which contains grass-fed unsalted butter and coconut oil. As is cold brewed.

Additions to the menu are coming from two sources, the owners, and their customers. A customer’s suggestion led to them to carry Arnold Palmers. If there is high demand for a drink or food item, they will look into the items and possibly put them on the menu. With the coming of fall, more sandwiches and soup options will also be added.

Duvall was drawn to the building because of the Rat Fink art that was painted on the side of it, but Bailey-Duvall opted to paint it white. She was apparently on point, as most of their reviews mention the atmosphere – it is beautiful and bright, one reviewer says.

“We love it here,” added Duvall, “Everyone is so nice and welcoming. We like the slow pace and even the hot weather after coming from Indiana.”
