Ravenwood’s Jordan Smith scored a pair of touchdowns, leading the Raptors to a 44-14 rout of LaVergne in the first round of the TSSAA football playoffs on Friday.
Smith scored his second touchdown of the night, this coming on a 5-yard run, extending the Ravenwood lead to 28-7 with eight minutes left in the third quarter.
Anthony Holmes ran for a 10-yard score with 5:12 left in the third to extend the advantage to 28 after Sam French’s point-after.
Nick Stallcup’s rushing touchdown, which extended the lead to 44-7 after the point-after, accounted for the Raptors’ last touchdown.
It’s the fifth win in a row for the Raptors (9-2), who’ll play the winner of Independence and Smyrna next week. That game will be played at Ravenwood.
Ravenwood’s Parker Nash scored the game’s first touchdown, with French’s point-after providing the Raptors with a 7-0, first-quarter advantage.
After LaVergne with a long touchdown run, quarterback Brian Garcia hit Miller Powell with a touchdown pass, helping the Raptors to a seven-point lead again.
Smith added a 3-yard scoring run with 17 seconds left before half.
That ends LaVergne’s season with a 4-7 record, and snapped a two-game winning streak for the Wolverines.
