Lawrence County Lady Wildcats (27-5, 11-1)

Riverdale Lady Warriors (29-0, 12-0)

Region 4 AAA Semis

Tournament play moved to Siegel High School Monday night where defending state champs, Riverdale took on Lawrence County.

In the first round the Lady Warriors got very little resistance from Franklin County and it appeared tonight would be more of the same. To many Warrior fans surprise, the Lady Wildcats came out swinging. They were backed by their fans that made the hour plus trip to Murfreesboro. It was a crowd that even out numbered the Riverdale faithful and they made their presence felt all night.

After emotions tempered and the pace of play settled in, the Lady Warriors began to take control. Familiar faces, Anastasia Hayes (14 pts) and Brinae Alexnader (13 pts) were once again leading the charge for Riverdale. The other starters for the Lady Warriors totaled 24 points while the bench was big all night, contributing 22 points.

Although the rout was on from the early stages, Lawrence Co. cheering section stayed loud throughout. At one point, they began to chant Riverdale is “Overrated”, leaving the RHS crowd dumbfounded due to the lopsided score.

The Lawrence Co. fans might have won the cheering battle, but they’ll have to cheer from home now as their Lady Wildcats would go on to lose big, 73-40 to Riverdale.

Awaiting the Lady Warriors in the finals? The same team that they met in the District Championship, Stewarts Creek Lady Red Hawks.

That game was the closest the Lady Warriors played all season and this rematch will surely carry immense anticipation for both schools. The two will go toe to toe for the fourth time this season. The four previous matches, all taken by Riverdale, but that will not detour SCHS from bringing everything they have.

Fittingly the game will be March 1st, in the month of madness, in which this game ensures to be. Tip is at 7 pm at Siegel High School.
