La Vergne city officials and the Parks and Recreation Department will hold a Veterans Day Celebration to honor all those who have served in the military. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, November 10th near the Veterans Memorial Wall.
Speakers will include Rolling Thunder Vice President Dewey Hunter, Chief Warrant Officer Todd Wright, Mayor Dennis Waldron and Mayor-elect Jason Cole. The National Anthem will be sung by Amanda Shields. Taps will be played and the police department will do a 21-gun salute.
Chief Warrant Officer Todd Wright enlisted in the U.S. Army in October of 1979. He served as Aeroscout/crew chief from 1980-1990 and completed the U.S. Army flight school in May 1991. Major assignments included 101st Airborne Division, United States Helicopter Team, 11th ACR, 24th Infantry Division, 3rd Armored Division and Tennessee Army National Guard. Awards include Air Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with bronze campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Tennessee War Service Ribbon. He retired from military service in May of 2017 with 37 years and 3 months of service.
Dewey Hunter currently serves as the Vice President of Rolling Thunder, Inc. The non-profit’s major function is to publicize the Prisoners of War-Missing in Action issue, educate the public about how many soldiers have become POWs, to protect future veterans from being left behind should they become POWs or MIAs, and are committed to helping American veterans from all wars.
Information about purchasing bricks for the Veterans Memorial Wall will be available at the ceremony for anyone interested in purchasing a brick.
