Applications are currently being accepted for the La Vergne Citizen Police Academy, scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 10, 2019. Course topics for citizens participating in the Academy include officer selection and training; a tour of the police facility; patrol operations; traffic laws; DUI law and a demonstration on procedures with an impaired driver; criminal, drugs, and narcotics investigations; domestic violence and victim services; police firearms; use of force; crime scene and evidence collection; and more. In addition, participants will receive their CPR certification as part of the course if they pass the test.

“Our previous classes have proven very enlightening to our citizens, whether hearing from our officers or experiencing patrol or dispatch first-hand,” said Police Chief Mike Walker. “Residents enrolled in the Citizens Police Academy are gaining insight about law enforcement in La Vergne. The academy is designed to build community understanding and a working knowledge of our department. I would encourage anyone interested in public safety to apply.”

The classes will be held Tuesday nights from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the La Vergne Police Department, located behind City Hall at 5093 Murfreesboro Rd. Seating is limited, so applications should be turned as soon as possible at the police department. For more information, contact Sergeant Sheree Robertson at 615-287-8618.
