Fresh off a superb performance against No. 8 Notre Dame, Vanderbilt redshirt junior tight end Jared Pinkney has been named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week, the award’s selection committee announced on Wednesday.

Pinkney posted five receptions for a team-high 111 yards in last Saturday’s 22-17 loss to the Fighting Irish in South Bend, including an 18-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter that narrowed the Irish margin to five points. Pinkney also made four first-down catches in the game.

Through three games in 2018, Pinkney has 12 catches for a team-high 241 yards alongside one touchdown. Prior to Notre Dame, the redshirt junior hauled in 98 yards through the air in Vanderbilt’s 41-10 win over Nevada on Sept. 8. Pinkney’s 241 receiving yards on the season rank sixth among all SEC players in 2018.

The John Mackey Award Tight End of the Week is an honor distinct and different from the annual John Mackey Award. The 2018 John Mackey recipient will be announced on December 5, 2018 and then presented live on Dec. 6 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

The John Mackey Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. The 24 awards boast over 750 years of tradition-selection excellence. Visit www.NCFAA.org to learn more about the Mackey story.
