On Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 4:58 AM, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to calls of gun shots in the area of S. University Street and Reid Alley. Upon arrival officers found an adult male victim lying in the roadway of the 400 block of S. University Street with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was treated on scene by members of the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department and
Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, who transported him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The victim has been identified as Byrus M. Hughes (black male, dob 1-16-1986). Mr. Hughes is listed in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center at this time.
No suspect information is available at this time as this is an ongoing investigation in the
preliminary stages.
