At approximately 4:53 A.M. this morning, the Police Department received a call of “shots fired” at “The Vie” Apartments located on 1345 Wenlon Drive. Upon our arrival at 4:55 A.M., witnesses stated an unknown black male was laying in the parking lot between the Number 3 and Number 5 buildings. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and his identity is still unknown.
Witnesses further stated they saw a dark colored vehicle fleeing the scene. Officers observed this vehicle in the immediate vicinity and conducted a traffic stop. The driver had been shot in the leg and was transported to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital Emergency Room.
The investigation is ongoing. As more information can be released updates will be made.
