by: Donovan Stewart,

LaVergne is riding the momentum of two consecutive Class 5A playoff appearances and 2016 could be their biggest year yet.

The Wolverines return nine starters overall (four on offense, five on defense) as they will try to get over the six win hump as they have a combined 12-11 record the last two years.

The team will be led by Tennessee commitments Maleik Gray and Princeton Fant. Gray (6-2, 210) will start his fourth year at linebacker after posting 57 tackles, two sacks, two fumbles recoveries and an interception in 2015 on defense while hauling in 22 passes for another 485 yards and ten touchdowns to earn All-Region 5-5A honors.

Fant (6-2, 205) is coming off a junior season that was sidetracked after he tore his ACL which caused him to miss the entire year. He will be counted on heavily at wide receiver on offense and at safety on defense.

The Wolverine offense will also welcome back junior quarterback KeiAnthony Conner who had a solid 2015 sophomore campaign as he passed for 824 yards and six touchdowns.

LaVergne will have several players that can carry the football as seniors Keytavious Bradley and Sherrod Joy as well as junior Tyree Garner should all get carries giving the Wolverines quality depth at the position. Senior Jecarous Stephens could also get the occasional carry but he will be counted on to open holes from his fullback position.
