The La Vergne Police Department welcomed four new members to its ranks during a swearing-in ceremony held Monday in the City Hall Board Room. Police Chief Christopher Moews administered the oath to three new patrol officers and one new dispatcher.
The first to be sworn in was “Dispatcher Jennifer Chenevert”, who joins the team responsible for handling emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Chief Moews emphasized the critical importance of dispatchers within the department, noting that they are often the first contact a person has in a moment of crisis.
“It’s a very difficult job to try to help somebody when you’re not physically there,” said Chief Moews. “They have to be calm, resourceful, and compassionate. It’s an incredibly demanding and vital position.”
Following Chenevert’s oath, Patrol Officers Keller Nail, Lloyd Selph, and Jacque Sugita were sworn in together. The three recently completed months of training with the La Vergne Police Department, preparing them to serve and protect the community.
Police Department Swearing-In CeremonyCalling their months of training both a “blessing” and “inspirational,” the three newest patrol officers expressed pride in their achievement and in becoming of the La Vergne Police Department. Their thoughts were summed up succinctly by Officer Sugita who said, “It’s just a big honor to be a part of this team.”
Chief Moews congratulated the new hires, noting their commitment to public service and the positive impact they will bring to the city.
Challenging the new officers to keep both themselves, the department, and himself accountable, Chief Moews noted “we’re building something special here in La Vergne.”
“I’m really proud of the culture we are beginning here and the work that’s being done,” he said.
