The inaugural #TShawStrong Golf Invitational led in November by Tim Shaw, former linebacker for the Titans, at The Hideaway at Arrington raised $25,000 to fight ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

Shaw was diagnosed with ALS in 2014 after playing with the Titans for three seasons. The golf tournament was created this year to combine his love for golf with the determination to overcome the disease.

“It means so much to me that Middle Tennessee and my Titans family came out to fight ALS and raise awareness in such a big way,” Shaw said in a press release announcing the proceeds of the event. “This is just the beginning. We’re going to keep fighting.”

The $25,000 will go to Shaw’s charity of choice: the Team Gleason Foundation. Team Gleason, an organization founded in honor of former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason who also was diagnosed with ALS, helps fund and develop technologies to enhance the lives of those with the disease.

“It was such an honor for Team Gleason to play a role in this event. We could not do what we do for the ALS community without the support from incredible people and organizations like Tim Shaw and the Tennessee Titans,” said Blair Casey, Team Gleason’s General Manager. “Tim is a beacon example of someone who is thriving despite adversity and we are so proud to have partnered with him for this tournament.”

Zach Todd, local chair for the event, said the tournament surpassed their original fundraising goal and that 100 percent of the money raised will go to Team Gleason.

The 2017 #TShawStrong Golf Invitational will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at The Hideaway at Arrington. Ticket and sponsorship information can be found at http://tshawgolf.com.

The Hideaway at Arrington is Williamson County’s newest golf course community. The 742-acre community is off Cox Road south of Arrington Vineyards.

The #TShawStrong Golf Invitational was organized in 2016 to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Started by Tim Shaw, Zach Todd and Brian Layton, the charitable event was created with the ultimate goal to raise money and help as many people as possible who wake up every day battling ALS.
