On Wednesday night, the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) responded to a house fire that displaced a family on Ridgecrest Drive. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home, specifically the kitchen area. Firefighters conducted a search and confirmed that no one was inside. The residents had self-evacuated before emergency personnel arrived. A cat was also located inside the home and was safely rescued. No injuries were reported to the residents or the pet.
Firefighters launched an interior attack and quickly brought the fire under control. The kitchen sustained heavy fire damage, and both floors of the home were affected by significant smoke damage.
The Fire Marshal’s Office remains on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
MFRD reminds all residents to test their smoke alarms regularly and to maintain a home fire escape plan.
