Reported by Daily News Journal (DNJ), Dillards has stated it will permanently close its doors in Murfreesboro by the end of January, according to a letter sent from the retailer to Mayor Shane McFarland.
While officials did not state the reason of the closure, the following was shown in its corporate third quarter report:

- Comparable store sales decreased 4%
- Net income of $124.6 million compared to $155.3 million
