Nashville has been announced as a host city for next summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The U.S. Men’s soccer team will compete in a opening-round matchup against an undetermined opponent at Nissan Stadium on July 8. The Gold Cup series is the official national team championship of the region.
An email blast from the Nashville Soccer Club said the news was significant given the almost-simultaneous announcement that a local ownership group was hoping to field a professional soccer team in Nashville by 2018.
“Our city’s interest in soccer is accelerating in a fantastic way, and we believe that a rising tide lifts all boats,” the soccer club declared.
The Gold Cup is a biennial men’s soccer tournament that features national teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
CONFACAF, the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football, is headquartered in Miami.
Nashville is one of 14 U.S. cities selected as a host venue.
