Since January the City, Parks and Recreation Department, and City Council have been engaged in a process of identifying and reviewing potential parcels of land. On January 14, 2016, Council received an update from David Coode, planning consultant Kimley-Horn & Associates. Parks Director Lanny Goodwin has previously indicated that the City of Murfreesboro is short of recreational fields, including soccer, baseball and softball fields, according to National Recreation and Parks Association standards.

Land being looked at includes:

  • 522 acres on Franklin Road owned by County Mayor Ernest Burgess.
  • 336 acres west of Veterans Parkway and south of New Salem Highway offered by Annetta Pike
  •  115 acres offered by Hoyte Owen on the north side of Franklin Road about 500 feet west of Veterans Parkway
  • 238 acres offered by the Shelton extended family on the east side of Blackman Road where the never-built Bible Park USA had been proposed.
