The Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Department, the American Water Works Association and water professionals across North America kicked off Drinking Water Week today by highlighting the theme “Your Water – To Know It Is To Love It.”

“AWWA and the water community have joined together for several decades to celebrate an important event in our industry, and that’s Drinking Water Week,” said AWWA Chief Executive Officer David LaFrance. “We look forward to Drinking Water Week each year to assist consumers in understanding and appreciating their local water supply and water utility.

Throughout the week, Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Customer Service Department, AWWA and water community partners will celebrate Drinking Water Week by recognizing the vital role water plays in our daily lives and in the quality of life we enjoy because of it. Focus will be placed on ways in which water consumers can get to know and value their water supply and local water utility during this special week.

Sharon Seibert, the Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Department’s Customer Service Manager, has a challenge for the community. This year’s celebration will be held May 1st-7th. This week look for ways to celebrate and get informed about our most precious resource, drinking water.”

To commemorate the week, the Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Customer Service Department will showcase posters from elementary school students emphasizing the importance of drinking water, provide educational flyers for children to demonstrate the water cycle and how water gets to their homes. Each day the department’s Facebook page will have new water conservation or importance of drinking water posts. This year, their employees have adopted the AWWA Water For People Foundation making monitory donations to support their spring 2016 campaign.

Finally, visitors at their 300 NW Broad Street location will be welcomed by a festive themed environment with free water bottles and their amazing tap water. They believe using water wisely is important, so they will raffle off a rain barrel to their customer holders.
