The experience known as Buc-ee’s is slowly growing out of the dirt off 1-24 at Joe B. Jackson Parkway and Elam Road. While the ground was broken at the end of 2024, a pipe shortage and some necessary work realigning Butler Road led to a delay. Construction is underway once again. It will take about a year and a half to complete the build.

Originally told that the project would be completed by September 2024, it is now predicted that it will probably be early to mid-2026 before the Murfreesboro Buc-ee’s is completed.

Bucee’s is known for its ginormous gas stations that include award-winning clean bathrooms, tasty brisket, and gas pumps as far as the eye can see. In the case of Murfreesboro, that will be 120 gas pumps and a walking trail.

According to an article on WGNS radio’s website, Mayor Shane McFarland said, “Despite what will amount to a short-lived lull in construction, progress on…Buc-ee’s is actually ahead of schedule.”

The 76,245 square foot travel center will feature all that Buc-ee’s is known for, including their beef jerky, beaver nuggets, fudge, and brisket everything. It is an oasis for the weary traveler where they can take a break, stretch their legs, get some tasty food, fill up the gas tank, and buy just about anything you can think of in the way of merchandise, most carrying the Buc-ee’s logo. And there will be plenty of room to park, with 490 parking spots for cars, and 15 RV/bus parking slots. Buc-ee’s is a destination in and of itself.

Buc-ee’s is also known for paying well. Their managers make about $120,000 per year, and the store will require about 200 well-paying jobs with benefits.

Existing Buc-ee’s locations in Tennessee are already providing the cities where they are located with significant tax income, according to WKRN News Channel 2. Murfreesboro City Councilmember Shawn Wright told Channel 2, “The Crossville store brought in $5-5.5 million in revenue and that’s non-petroleum sales, that’s just inside sales. The Sevierville store is at $9.5 million, and most of those visitors are from 100 miles away from those stores…[T]hat could create $2.75 million worth of tax revenue for the city of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.”
