Boro Art Crawl two day flyer (1) - Copy-page-001In honor of the Tennessee Arts Commission’s annual conference taking place in Murfreesboro this year, the Boro Art Crawl will occur for two nights in June. Fine artists, photographers, craft artists, musicians, the Delineators, and Boro Improv will come together on June 9th and 10th from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Almost 30 businesses and galleries will be open to the public on these two nights.

At The Shoppes on West Main, the work of Ray Kleinlein(pictured above) will be featured. Kleinlein has had showings in galleries and museums from coast to coast. He is known for and been honored for his realistic still life painting of everyday objects.

“As a contemporary artist who deliberately chooses to work within the parameters of a traditional genre and to employ a traditional mode of representation,” Kleinlein states on his website, “my challenge is to create work that embraces tradition (which I’m convinced remains vital and relevant for our time) while simultaneously transcending the sense of nostalgia often attributed to it…Ultimately my paintings celebrate the simple act of looking at the overlooked and the pleasures derived from seeing ordinary things in an extraordinary way.”

Kleinlein will share the space with Jeff Mayfield, also an artist who deals in realism, blending photography and watercolor. Mayfield worked for many years as Chief Executive Officer of Quality Industries in LaVergne, and was a member of Murfreesboro Art League.

thumbnail_M-Prov ShakesbeerTo keep the two nights of the Art Crawl light and amusing, M-Prov, Murfreesboro’s own improv acting troupe, will be performing at The Shoppes on West Main. M-prov was founded in April of 2015 by a group of local actors who all have experience working with the various groups in Nashville and Franklin. They just completed their third very successful performance at the Discovery Center’s Shakesbeer fundraiser.

In the Murfreesboro City Hall Rotunda, the work of artists Kristina Lyle and Miranda Herrick will be featured in an exhibit called Constructed/Reconstructed. The artists will be hosting a reception during the Crawl, and they will be available to discuss their work.
By popular demand, the poetry reading group, the Dilineators, will be returning this month and performing in the rotunda during the artist’s reception. They performed at The Shoppes on West Main last month as part of poetry month.

The Tennessee Art Commissions’ conference will be discussing art and community, so the Boro Art Crawl will facilitate the creation of a community art collaboration with the help of local artist and Crawl committee member, Beth Boudreaux. She will be located at VNTG both evenings, so visitors to the Crawl will be able to add their talents to the community art piece. VNTG is located near Simply Pure Sweets on the Crawl route. They build custom furniture.

Other participating businesses and organizations include: Top of the Block, Daffodilly Design, The Shoppes on Main (hosting Boro Improv this month), Mayday Brewery, L & L Contracting, The Green Dragon, Cultivate Coworking, Liquid Smoke, Smoke and Mirrors, Funtiques, Let’s Make Wine, Dreaming in Color, Sugaree’s, The Write Impression, Simply Pure Sweets, The Boutique at Studio C Photography, VNTG, Murfreesboro Art League at Cannonsburg Village, Oaklands Mansion, The Block, Center for the Arts, Moxie Art Supply, Two-Tone Gallery, MTSU Galleries, Earth Experience, Studio 903, and Discovery Center.

A map of all crawl locations will be available online a few days before the event. This map will also note where refreshments and music will be available. For a copy of the map or more information, visit www.boroartcrawl.com or their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BoroArtCrawl
