MTSU Takes the North

Middle Tennessee (2-1) traveled to Ohio Saturday to take on the Falcons of Bowling Green(1-2). Murfreesboro native, I’Tavious Mathers stole the show by breaking an MTSU offensive record. Mathers tallied 157 yards on the ground and 103 through the air on just four catches, becoming the first player in school history to eclipse 100 yards in the air and ground. Quarterback Brent Stockstill looked impressive once again with 18 completions, 278 yards and 3 TD’s. Stockstill continues to climb up MTSU’s all time passing yardage list, moving into sixth place with 5052 yards. Stockstill also moved into a tie for third on the all time passing touchdowns list with 41. Stockstill only needs 12 more TD passes be in first place, and he’s only a sophomore.

The MT defense took awhile to feel out the Falcon offense in the first half, allowing 21 points. The second half was a different story, as the Blue Raiders clamped down, shutting Bowling Green out. Forcing three total turnovers while only allowing a stunning 129 yards of passing. The Blue Raiders would go on to pick up the a huge road win by a score of 41-21 before conference play starts next week when MT hosts LA Tech.
