No. 9 Riverdale Warriors 4-0 (1-0)
No. 1 Oakland Football 3-0 (0-0)
A Rivalry Renewed
A game that needs no introduction to the football fans in Murfreesboro. This is one of those contest where you can throw out the records, current winnings streaks and everything else, save respect.
Ever since 1972, when the closing of Central High School split Murfreesboro up into Patriot red and Riverdale cardinal, these two teams have battled for ‘Boro supremacy. The game needs no more hype, but for an added bonus, this year both teams come in undefeated for the first time since 2010’s installment of the “Battle for the ‘Boro.”
This go round, Oakland will play host, where they haven’t just been dominate this season, but over the last several seasons. Their last home loss coming all the way back in the 2013 TSSAA playoffs in the quarter finals.
As for this season though, the Pats already have trademark home wins against some of the state’s very best. Defeating Maryville and Independence handily at home this season.
With that said, Riverdale will of course have their work cut out for them. But they are expecting a street fight Friday night. And this season, head coach, Will Kriesky and Warriors have to like their chances much more than in years past. Despite losing starting QB, Christian Souffront a couple weeks ago the offense has been full tilt. Behind stud running back, Savion Davis, that comes as no surprise.
Kick off for Friday’s game is at 7pm at Oakland High School.
