Baseball Roundup: Blackman Shuts Out Smyrna – Twice

The Blackman Blaze posted shutouts in both ends of a doubleheader Thursday in stymieing the Smyrna Bulldogs.
The Blaze got a one-hit shutout from Zavien Lindsey in a 4-0 victory in the opener, and D.J. Wright tossed a five-hit blanking against the Bulldogs in the second game.
With the two victories, the Blaze is now 20-7 on the year, while Smyrna dropped to 5-18.
In other action involving Rutherford County squads, the Stewarts Creek Red Hawks won a doubleheader from LaVergne, taking the opener, 11-1, and the second game, 12-3. Daniel Freeman was the Red Hawks’ main power source, hitting a home run in each game for Stewarts Creek, including a grand slam in game two. Freeman was the winning pitcher for the Red Hawks in the first game. Stewarts Creek is now 20-7, while LaVergne is 5-15.
Oakland avenged two earlier losses this week to Riverdale, as the Patriots took a 7-1 victory Thursday. Oakland is now 10-15, while Riverdale slipped to 16-10-2.
Ensworth edged Central Magnet, 5-3, while Eagleville lost in a slugfest to Community, 12-11.
