Don’t Mistake Age For Weakness

fftm300x600-1That’s right, I said 54 year old former Southern Boys’ , Tracy Smothers still has it. Smothers has been wrestling professionally since 1982 and even trained “The Natural” Chase Stevens. But, don’t mistake Smothers age. He still knows how to work the crowd into a frenzy as possibly one of the best “heels” in the business. For those that may not understand, a “heel” is a “bad guy” .

Tracy is as nice a guy as you will meet before and after the matches. Taking pictures, signing autographs, telling stories. Kicked back in tattered overalls, The Wild Eyed Southern Boy seems at home with the fans. But once he hits the ring, that’s all out the door. Still a master of “the fireball” and “dirty tactics” Smothers can get a crowd to booing in a matter of seconds of hitting the ring.

But that shouldn’t be hard for Smothers to do. I mean work a crowd. I mean the guy pinned a bear…..

Wrestled The Best On Two and Four Legs

Tracy was always a wrestler. The first from Springfield High School to go to Tennessee State Wrestling Championships. Smothers started to gain acclaim in the 80’s when he and Steve Armstrong teamed up as The Southern Boys in Florida Championship Wrestling, which was a hot bed for up and comers. There was one particular match that took the wrestling world by storm, When Tracy wrestled in CWF:

Now don’t get upset animal activist, this was the 80’s . And Tracy humanely pinned the 550 lb. un-muzzled bear a minimum of 5 times. Tracy has not wrestled a bear since then.

The Southern Boys would take make their way to WCW in the early 90’s, where they feuded with one of the greatest teams of all times, The Fabulous Freebirds.

Smothers would pursue singles competition in Smoky Mountain Wrestling in the Mid 90’s with success. He was a 2-time Heavyweight Championship of The World, and a Tag Team Champ. After that, stints in WWE, ECW, and other organizations have brought the veteran to Fight For The Mind 2.

Why The Fight For The Mind?

Shaun Balaban worked as a professional wrestler under the ring name of Shooter Storm for 15 years all throughout the Northeast, Southeast and Canada. March of this year he was forced to hang up the boots for good after suffering many major injuries. He is now concentrating on promoting events under the banner of Best of the Best Wrestling. He ran a successful Fight for the Mind event in Massena NY on April 23 of this year in memory of his mom who he lost after a long battle with Alzheimer’s . He continues what he plans to be an annual event this coming January, 27th in Murfreesboro TN at the national guard armory and will have it air live on IPPV via the Fite TV app
