Mindful Care Adult Day Services will host an Open House, Friday, March 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at New Vision Baptist Church, 1750 N. Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro. The public is invited to learn more about Mindful Care, view a new video and enjoy a lunch buffet. Mindful Care is a nonprofit program offering supervised adult day programs for people age 55-plus. Caring and experienced staff offer stimulating mental and physical activities.

In addition, the program allows family caregivers the opportunity to recharge, take care of personal matters or even continue employment. Tom Starling, Ed.D., CEO of Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee, will be the noon speaker for the event.

Caregivers will also share what Mindful Care has meant to them and their loved ones. Dr. Starling holds degrees in psychology, ethics, and educational administration. He has experience in Alzheimer’s administration and was CEO of United Way of Rutherford County, among numerous other positions.

The services provided by Mindful Care will become more and more vital as our nation prepares for what experts call a “tsunami of Alzheimer’s” in the coming years. Alzheimer’s is an epic disease with a case being identified every minute in America and every four seconds around the world. Alzheimer’s is a degenerative disease that affects every aspect of society. Alzheimer’s has been called “the most expensive disease in America.” At present there is no cure.
