5 Unique Places to Ring in the New Year

When you think of New Year’s Eve celebrations, you may imagine fireworks and a ball drop (or in the case of Nashville – a music note drop), but we found these unique New Year’s trips that will offer a memorable experience for you and your family.

1Hiking in the Grand Canyon

Among the most unique experiences that you can take part of on New Year’s is the trails and views of the Grand Canyon. Stay at one the yurts on the North Rim or set up camp after getting your permit. There’s plenty of things to do and enjoy from the snow covered canyon to hiking along the Kaibab Plateau trail, which weaves through lofty peaks and isolated gorges or the Boucher Trail. They also do tours by Jeep through the Canyon so you can enjoy and see all of it even if your trip is short. Enjoy it with the whole family with this special for up to 16 members.

2On a Train in Colorado

One of the coolest new years events is Colorado’s Royal Gorge Route New Year’s Dinner Train. Ride the 3 hr route with dinner and enjoy the New Year. Choose to meet new people on their regular fare or pay extra for a private dome car or dining car. Dinner includes a first class dinner menu which features several delicious prix fixe, three-course options, made with fresh Colorado ingredients, prepared by Executive Chef Jeremy Garnett. Your favorite drinks are available from wine, beer, mixed drinks or specialty holiday drinks. Passengers are also free to stroll out onto the open air car with your libation and lose yourself in the beauty of the gorge at night. A complimentary glass of sparkling wine is provided complimentary (for over 21 guests) to kick in the new year.

3Within Nature at Lake Champlain

Lake Champlain offers a New Year’s party for the family to enjoy while also offering the comforts of nature and private family fun. Tucked against the Canadian border, Lake Champlain offers plenty of winter activities to keep you entertained during the day from ice fishing and cross-country skiing to snowshoeing and visiting the frozen Ausable Chasm. During the evening, ring in the new year by relaxing with your friends and family in a beautiful rental chalet or by visiting one of the area’s hotels to enjoy dinner and a midnight champagne toast. The community is providing a pre-party and the new year’s kick off as well.

4Camping in Shenandoah National Park

The Shanandoah National Park is another great option in nature and a wonderful way to support a national park during their off season and create a wonderful new year’s memory for you. The park closes off some of their services during the off months, but backcountry remains open for a peaceful getaway. Grab a permit and enjoy your quiet retreat in the 196,000 acres of  Shenandoah National Park and over 500 miles of trails. Shanandoah Valley also offers tons of other options to enjoy the new year.

5Cruising Along the Tennessee River

While the other options require traveling, you don’t have to go far to enjoy a unique New Year’s celebration. Check out Chattanooga this year which offers a wealth of events. For instance, take a ride on the Chattanooga Riverboat Co.’s Southern Belle for the New Year’s on the River event that features live entertainment, DJ, dancing, a midnight toast, Pilot House tours and more. Join them at 4 p.m. for the Early Bird dinner cruise or 9 p.m. cruise. There’s many other options to check out as well; just visit the Chattanooga fun site for all events happening now.
