Local Living: 5 Things to do This Week

1. Wine Tasting Dinner to Benefit Rutherford Arts Alliance

WHAT: The Alley on Main has selected Rutherford Arts Alliance as the non-profit to benefit from its Monday, Oct. 7, wine tasting dinner. Limited to only 30 diners, half of the $40 ticket price will be donated to the Rutherford Arts Alliance for public art projects in our county. Ticket prices include wine and a gourmet dinner prepared by proprietor/chef Shawn Hackinson.

2. Bluegrass Jam at the Night Farmers Market

WHAT: Bring your acoustic instrument to the beautiful Sam Davis Home and Plantation and jam during the Night Farmers Market. All skill levels are welcome. The Market is 4-8pm but come when you can. Enjoy the beautiful grounds of the Historic Sam Davis Home as you meet local farmers and artists and be sure to take home some wonderful local goods!

3. Fright Night at Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center


WHAT: Enjoy an evening of family-friendly spookiness: Haunted House Walk through the building, Costumed Characters, Freaky Friday Animals, and Creepy Games to excite everyone. Please dress in your costume!

Food Trucks: Chick-Fil-A, The Veggie Table. Hotdogs and Sweets will also be available for purchase. Dessert Food Trucks: Grady’s Ice Cream.

Families with younger children are encouraged to attend from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Scary hour starts at 8:00pm.

Special Shows in the Witches Lair:
Friday Night – Creepy Animal Shows at 6:30pm, 7:30pm & 8:30pm.
Saturday Night – Creepy Animal Shows at 6:30pm, 7:30pm & 8:30pm.

4. Movie Under the Stars: The Jungle Book

WHAT: Join Fountains at Gateway every Friday night in October for their Classics: Reimagined series! And make sure to bring a blanket and a bag chair! This week’s movie on October 11 is The Jungle Book (2016).

5. Science on Tap: The Social Science of Rock ‘n’ Roll

WHAT: Get your Harley-Davidson motor runnin’ for an evening of flashbacks that highlight the socially transformative music on the soundtrack to the landmark counter-culture film Easy Rider.

Paul Fischer was a professor in Music Business at MTSU for 22 years, where his students gave him the title “Doctor of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Come hear his insights on the music and story that captured the 1960s on film.

Science on Tap is a recurring series of conversations where you can explore the latest ideas in science and technology, while enjoying a local brew, sponsored by The Nashville Section of the American Chemical Society and presented by the Discovery Center.
