Local Living: 5 Things to do This Week

1. Celebrity Spelling Bee

WHAT: The community is invited to  Read To Succeed’s 13th annual Celebrity Spelling Bee. Cheer on the brave, local celebrity fixtures as they fight for the title of Rutherford County’s BEST Speller and support your favorite speller’s fundraising.

Food is provided by Slick Pig BBQ and will feature a menu of pork BBQ, chopped chicken, buns/rolls, potato salad, baked beans, and dessert. There will be sweet tea, unsweet tea and water. Adult beverages are available for purchase.

2. Fall Harvest Hayride

WHAT: Listen to live music as you toast marshmallows and eat s’mores around the campfire. An old-fashioned hayride along the Greenway is great fun for the whole family.

$2 per person, Ages 2 and under are free, Friends of the Greenway are free

3. Thanksgiving Around the World


WHAT: Thanksgiving is an American holiday, but people all around the world have ways to celebrate what they’re thankful for too. Join the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center to learn about and practice the ways to celebrate and give thanks!

4. Veteran’s Concert: Treasures of Times Gone By

WHAT: A mainstage concert, featuring patriotic music, honoring Veterans through all times.

WHEN: Friday, November 8, 7:30pm

WHERE: First United Methodist Church, 265 West Thompson Lane, Murfreesboro

5. 7th Annual Chili Cook-off Benefiting United Way

WHAT: Rutherford County Government will host its 7th Annual Chili Cook-off benefitting United Way on Friday, November 8.

Departments will participate in a friendly competition to see who has the “Best Chili,” “Best Hot Chili,” and the “Best Booth Decorations.” This year’s theme is patriotic in honor of Veterans Day.

The event will take place on the east side of the public square near the inner circle. Pre-sale tickets are available in select County departments including Risk Management, Human Resources, Building Codes, and the Property Assessor’s office, but will also be available on event day. All proceeds will be donated to United Way of Rutherford County.
