Luke Buckley score two of the Blaze’s three goals as Blackman defeated Oakland, 3-1, to claim the Region 4-AAA soccer championship.
Buckley’s second goal of the game broke a 1-1 deadlock as the Blaze improved to 12-2-2 and will now host Cookeville on Saturday in the sectionals with a state tournament bid on the line.
Kobe Srisorath scored Blackman’s other goal in the game, adding some insurance.
Gerry Esquivel had the lone goal for the Patriots.
Oakland, which dropped to 12-4-3 on the year, will travel to Cleveland on Saturday for its substate game to try and reach the state tournament.
In other action, involving Rutherford County teams, the Central Magnet Tigers avenged a loss in the district tournament last week to Merrol Hyde, taking a 3-0 shutout and claiming the Region 4-A/AA championship in the process.
Luis Sanchez had two goals to lead the Tigers, while Cole Yoders added the other, as Central improved to 16-2 on the season and will host Loudon on Saturday with a state tournament berth hanging in the balance.
