Murfreesboro Asks For Voluntary Water Restrictions

Drought Alert: Middle Tennessee, to include the Murfreesboro Water & Sewer Department’s (MWSD’s) and Consolidated Utility District’s (CUD’s) service area, are not experiencing water supply issues; however, Rutherford County has received lower than normal precipitation. The National Drought Mitigation Center identifies Rutherford County as currently experiencing a “D2 – Severe Drought”.
As identified in both MWSD’s and CUD’s drought management plan, these two utilities want to notify their customers that they are moving from Phase 1 – Drought Alert to Phase 2 – Voluntary Reductions. Continued drought may require additional focus on conservation. The goal under Phase 2 – Voluntary Reductions is for customers to reduce their monthly usage through conservation by 10%. At this time no mandatory reduction is required. This voluntary reduction does not include the reclaimed water system used for irrigation.

If you have any questions, please feel to contact Alan Cranford or Alison McGee with MWSD at (615) 848-3222, or Randy Harrell with CUD at 615-893-7225.
