Multiple Overnight Shootings Have MPD Vowing To Increase Patrols

The following is a statement released from the Murfreesboro Police Department:

This is a summary of some of the more serious incidents reported to police last night.  While charges have been filed in some of the cases and charges are pending in others, the MPD remains focused on providing safety to these affected neighborhoods.

17-8634 – Attempted 1st Degree Murder- Location: 920 Greenland Drive/902 Greenland Drive

At 7:24p.m. officers responded to 920 Greenland Drive in reference to shots fired.  When officers arrived, they discovered that the victim, Christopher Bills, was driven to St. Thomas Rutherford Emergency Room by a friend after being shot multiple times by an unknown subject.  Bills received five (5) gunshot wounds to his person and was in critical condition due to the severity of his injuries.   Bills was subsequently transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by LifeFlight  for treatment of his injuries.  The crime scene encompassed both 920 and 902 Greenland Drive, where  it is believed that Bills was shot in the back lot of 902 Greenland Drive and that the suspect(s) likely fled through the parking lot of 920 Greenland Drive.  Bills injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening at this time.

 

17-8643 – Reckless Endangerment – Location 2260 Pitts Ln.

At 9:15p.m. officers responded to the area of 2260 Pitts Lane in reference to a report of shots fired.  A search of the area revealed multiple shell casings in the parking lot.  There was no victim or property damage found or reported.

 

17-8645 – Reckless Endangerment – Location: 1103 Harrison Ave.

At 9:56 p.m. officers heard numerous shots fired in quick succession around Greenland Dr. and Harrison Ave.  As Officers responded, reports came in that the residence located at 1103 Harrison Ave. had been shot and that two suspects were seen leaving the scene on foot.

 

At 3:15a.m. this morning, officers stopped a vehicle matching the description of a possible suspect vehicle that had been involved in shootings earlier this week.  During this stop two stolen handguns were recovered.  Vincent Collier (25; 896 Vine St. Murfreesboro) and Randy Williams (unknown address and age) (arrest reports should be available tomorrow) were taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment and possession of stolen firearms.  Charges are pending regarding their possible involvement in recent shootings at 902 Greenland Dr.  See RCSO for booking information.

17-8630 – Attempted Murder – Location: 1011 Riviera St.

At 6:36p.m. officers responded to 1011 Riviera St. in reference to a shots fired call.  The complainant stated that Clifford Harris (9-25-80) fired several shots at her and several in the air.  Responding officers located Harris and he has since been booked on an Attempted Homicide charge.

While there have been arrests made, the incidents are of serious concern to Department officials, strategies have been identified which includes high visibility patrols and enforcement in the area while the investigations into these incidents continues. “The MPD has zero tolerance for anyone shooting a gun at a person or residence,” said Chief Karl Durr.  “We are devoting serious resources to combat these recent acts of violence and their underlying causes.”
