For the second straight week, Middle Tennessee earned Female Track Athlete of the Week honors, as Abike Egbeniyi was named this week’s honoree the league office announced Tuesday.

Egbeniyi set a school, facility and personal record this past weekend at Vanderbilt’s Commodore Invitational with a time of 2:04.47 in the 800 meter. Her time also sits as the nation’s best mark this season in the event.

The Lagos, Nigeria native captured MT’s lone first-place finish this weekend. Egbeniyi’s time broke the previous school record held by teammate Agnes Abu, who garnered last week’s honor.

The honor marks the first time Egbeniyi has been recognized as the female track athlete of the week. The sophomore finished the 2016 campaign with Third Team All-Conference accolades.

The Blue Raiders return to action this weekend in the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville. The two-day event gets underway Friday at 4 p.m. and will conclude Saturday evening.
