Middle Tennessee could not hold on for the win, despite Tyler Hasper’s gem on the mound, falling 7-6 in 10 innings against Georgia Southern (RV) in Statesboro.

Hasper in his first career start in a Blue Raider uniform was masterful. The junior college transfer from Heartland CC struck Eagles out left and right. The Phoenix, Ariz., native’s 11 strikeouts are the most for a Blue Raider pitcher since Zac Curtis’ 12 strikeouts against Marshall May 15, 2014.

Hasper was making batters looks silly with his 96 mph fastball. The junior finished the game hurling six innings allowing no runs on two hits and three walks.

“What a performance from Hasper, he was great on the mound,” said Head Coach Jim McGuire. “He was in command from the start, he had a fantastic night.”

For the second straight game, the Blue Raiders started the scoring in the first inning. Austin Dennis led things off with an RBI-single up the middle to score Delgado. Huff followed it up with a single to center, bringing home Dennis. MT led 2-0 after the first frame.

The Blue Raiders added another run in the fourth to go up 3-0.

In the top of the sixth MT extended its lead, when Riley Delgado hits his first triple of his career to score Kaleb King. Delgado finished 2-for-5 with a run and RBI. King had a solid game tying a career high with three hits, along with two runs and an RBI.

Five different Blue Raiders had two or more hits in the game. Seniors Brad Jarreau and Chaz Vesser, along with Austin Dennis all went 2-for-5 in the contest.

The Eagles struck back putting up a two-spot in the bottom of the seventh. The Blue Raiders led 6-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth. With two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth, Georgia Southern struck with a three-run triple to tie the game.

In the 10th with runners on second and third, Georgia Southern sealed the win with a single up the middle. Connor Simmons (1-0) picked up the win, while Carter Bair (0-1) was tabbed with the loss.

The rubber match is set for Sunday at noon. Sophomore Carson Lester will get the start on the mound for the Blue Raiders.
