Should you work out in the morning or in the evening? Is one better than the other? Here are pros and cons of both that may help you choose which is right for you.

Working Out in the Morning

Pros-

It Pumps You Up For The Day:
By starting your day with a workout routine, you will get a burst of energy that can keep you going throughout the day. You may find that you won’t crash in the middle of the day or have to reach for that 3 o’clock cup of coffee. A good workout in the morning pumps you up for the day to come.

You May Be More Consistent:
Working out in the morning can be a great choice if you find it difficult to stick with your fitness routine. Because you are getting your workout done first thing in the morning, you won’t have to worry about your schedule or any excuses that may come up during the day.

Cons-
Waking Up Early:
One thing that makes morning workouts difficult is that you have to be able to get out of bed. If you are not a morning person, then it may be hard for you to wake up early and you may get a negative attitude about working out. Working out in the morning can also be difficult if your job requires you to be at work early.
Being Hungry:
If you want to work out in the morning, you may not have time to nourish your body properly before or after your routine. If you are in a hurry and do not have time to give your body a chance to digest your breakfast, you may not perform as well and may experience some pain. On the other hand, if you skip breakfast and go straight to working out, then you may not have the energy to perform your workout safely and effectively.

Working Out in the Evening

Pros-
Stress Relief:
Evening workouts are a great way to shake off all of the stress and anxiety from the day. Working out in the evening gives you a good chance to clear your head between the end of the workday and the rest of your evening.

You Have More Time:
You may find that you have more time to devote to working out in the evening because you have already completed all of your daily activities. With more time, you also have more choices in the types of workouts you can do and you can take your time to get a really effective workout in.

Cons-
Crowded Gyms:
If you are a gym member, evening workouts may be difficult because evenings are typically a high traffic time for gyms. You may have to wait to use certain equipment which will force you to spend more time at the gym. Your workout may also be less efficient because there are so many other people working out around you.

Excuses:
Waiting until the evening to work out may make you more likely to find excuses to not exercise. It takes a lot of discipline to still work out if you have had a hectic day at home or work. Since you put off your workout to the evening, you may be tempted to not do it at all.

So Which is Better?
There are pros and cons to consider for both options. Most of the pros and cons depend on your individual lifestyle and it may take you some time to figure out which ones are important to you. Always listen to your body and choose the time of day that you are most likely to stick with your routine long term.
